Emma Ramarge | Counsellor & Trauma Therapist
I'm a trauma counsellor specialising in somatic and neurodivergent-affirming therapy. My style is warm, straightforward and down-to-earth. You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what to say, explain yourself perfectly or talk about anything before you're ready.
While I have specialist training in trauma, somatic therapy and neurodivergence, you don't need to identify with any of these to work with me. I also offer counselling for anxiety, relationships, overwhelm, life changes and times when things don't feel right.
We work at a pace that feels manageable, with space to understand both what's happening in your mind and what your body and nervous system might be telling you.

Who I work with
I work with adults and teenagers (15+) who are navigating emotional, relational or developmental challenges, especially those for whom talking alone hasn’t shifted things. My work is especially suited to people who:
-
struggle with anxiety, panic, or chronic overwhelm
-
experience shutdowns, dissociation, or freezes under stress
-
are neurodivergent (Autism, ADHD) or suspect they might be
-
feel exhausted from masking or people‑pleasing
-
have experienced relational or developmental trauma, long‑term stress, or repeated invalidation.
What it feels like to work together: Clients describe sessions as calm, steady and unhurried. I pay attention to what’s happening in the room, not only what is said, but how your body moves, breathes and responds in the moment. That gives us another, often more useful, way into what’s stuck.
There’s no pressure to have the right words. You don’t need to explain everything, maintain eye contact, or perform an idea of yourself that’s easier for others to hold. We go at a pace that feels manageable, using simple, practical tools you can use between sessions.
My approach to counselling
My work is trauma-trained, somatic and neurodivergent-affirming. I don't use a one-size-fits-all approach; sessions are adapted around how you process, communicate and feel most comfortable.
We might talk, notice what's happening in your body, work with patterns of overwhelm or shutdown, or slow things right down. There's no pressure to maintain eye contact, sit still or communicate in a particular way.
Above all, I want therapy to feel collaborative rather than clinical, somewhere you don't have to perform or get therapy “right”.
Trauma & neurodivergence
I have a particular interest in the overlap between trauma and neurodivergence. Sensory overwhelm, masking, repeated misunderstandings and years of trying to fit in can all affect the nervous system. I work with both together, rather than assuming everything is either “trauma” or “neurodivergence”. If you’d like to explore some of these ideas in your own time, I regularly write about neurodivergence, masking, burnout, trauma, and the nervous system on my Blog page.
More about me
Outside counselling, I enjoy CrossFit and yoga, and spend a lot of time walking my dog around the fields of Chapmanslade and Westbury.
My interest in neurodivergence is personal as well as professional. I have neurodivergent children, so I have first-hand experience of some of the challenges families can face, particularly around school, overwhelm and finding the right support.
I'm also currently studying for a Master's in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Bath Spa University, alongside running my counselling practice and continuing my specialist training in trauma and neurodivergence.

How to get started: If this feels like it could help, book a free 15‑minute intro call or send a quick message to ask anything. There’s no obligation, just a chance to check if the way I work feels right for you.
I believe counselling works best when you feel safe, understood and accepted. My aim is to create a space where you don't have to mask, explain yourself or get everything "right". Together we'll work at a pace that feels manageable, building trust and helping your nervous system feel safe enough for meaningful change.
I offer face-to-face counselling from my private counselling room in Chapmanslade, around 3 miles from Frome and within easy reach of Westbury, Warminster, Trowbridge and Bath.
I also offer online counselling across the UK.
