Somatic & neurodivergent-affirming counselling for Autism and ADHD — Frome, Wiltshire, and online across the UK.
Specialist trauma work for autistic and neurodivergent teens (15+) and adults who find talking therapy frustrating, sensory overwhelming, or simply not enough.
Who this page is for
-
You’re autistic, have ADHD, or think you might be neurodivergent.
-
You’ve tried talking therapy but still feel stuck, overwhelmed, or shut down.
-
You mask a lot to get through the day and feel exhausted by it.
-
You experience anxiety, panic, sensory overwhelm, shutdowns, or cycles of pushing through then crashing.
-
You want therapy that respects how you process, sense, and communicate, not therapy that asks you to change who you are.
What people commonly come to me with
-
Chronic burnout, exhaustion, or masking-related collapse
-
Shutdowns, freeze responses, or difficulty functioning under stress
-
Panic, racing thoughts, or constant low-level anxiety
-
Sensory overwhelm and difficulty tolerating everyday environments
-
Trouble identifying or naming emotions (alexithymia)
-
Repeated attempts at “fixing” things that don’t shift long-term
A different, body-informed approach: Standard talking therapy can feel too fast, too verbal, and not tuned to sensory or processing differences. My work is different in three practical ways:
-
We work with your nervous system, not just your thoughts.
-
Sessions are paced and adapted to your communication and sensory profile.
-
The focus is on understanding and supporting your system, not fixing or forcing it.
What that looks like in a session
-
Brief grounding and regulation practices tailored to you (small, simple, repeatable).
-
Gentle tracking of what your body notices when we talk (tension, breath, posture, temperature).
-
Checking in on sensory needs and adjusting session format (breaks, camera off, chat over voice, etc.).
-
Exploring patterns, masking, shutdown, overwhelm, without pressure to perform or narrate perfectly.
-
Practical tools you can use between sessions to reduce overwhelm and recover from crashes.
How this helps
-
Spot early signs of overwhelm and intervene before collapse.
-
Build regulation skills that fit your nervous system and lifestyle.
-
Reduce the cost of masking and improve day-to-day functioning.
-
Learn ways to safely approach difficult memories or triggers when your system is ready.
-
Understand how trauma and neurodivergence interact in your life — and work with both.
Trauma and neurodivergence: how they connect. Neurodivergent people are more likely to experience sensory overwhelm, persistent misunderstanding, and prolonged masking, all of which can lead to trauma. In sessions, I hold both the neurodivergent experience and any trauma responses together, so you’re not forced to choose between them.
Practical accessibility and session flexibility
-
Online sessions across the UK (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Phone, WhatsApp), ideal if you live outside Wiltshire or prefer remote support.
-
In-person sessions from Chapmanslade, Wiltshire (near Frome, Westbury, Warminster) if that suits you.
-
Options to use chat, email between sessions, or shorter/longer blocks if needed.
-
No requirement for eye contact, long monologues, or immediate verbal processing.
Do I need a diagnosis? No. You don’t need a formal autism or ADHD diagnosis to work with me. I offer neurodivergent-affirming therapy whether or not you have a diagnosis.
What to expect when we start
-
First step: a free 15-minute call to ask questions and see if we’re a good fit. No pressure, no commitment.
-
Sessions are collaborative and pace-led; we set goals together and review how things are going.
-
You don’t need to explain everything perfectly. We work with what you can manage in the moment.
Common questions.
Q: Why doesn’t talking therapy always help?
A: Because trauma and overwhelm are stored in the body and nervous system as well as in memories. Words alone sometimes don’t reach the part of you that’s stuck.
Q: What if I shut down during a session?
A: That’s okay and expected. We treat shutdowns as information and use gentle, practical ways to help your system settle.
Q: Is this approach safe for teens?
A: Yes — I work with teens 15+ and adapt everything to developmental and sensory needs.
